2010 - What a fantastic year that was!

I can't tell you how many times I have started this blog post, then deleted everything I wrote, started again and deleted, then sat and pondered how it would EVER get written, then tried to start it again. I thought about posting an image or two from every shoot I've done with a small blurb about that particular shoot but to be honest, I've been very busy shooting and it would take too long and you people have more to do than sit at your computer for three solid days! :-) Then I thought about splitting posts by writing about weddings, seniors etc., but then those posts don't apply to everyone. I've covered weddings, trash the dress, engagements, reunions, families, seniors, parties etc., Can you SEE how hard this is for me? :-)

So this is what it came down to. This is the decision I made.

I have already blogged about all the shoots I did and you have seen the majority of the main photographs from each one. So, I decided to present a 'slideshow' of images you may have seen before and some you may NOT have seen. I went through every shoot, picked some of MY favorite photos from each one and put them all together. There are images from every genre - some you may be scratching your head at as to why that photo is in there but trust me, there is a story behind every photo! It was harder to do than I thought but I'm happy with what I have. Looking through all the photographs and reliving the memories of that moment made me smile a LOT and realize that I do have a pretty fantastic job!

2010 was an AMAZING year for Photographs by Andrea. I've had some of the best clients you could ask for, I've made some great friends and have worked with some really great 2nd photographers, vendors etc., I especially want to thank Paul Lender, Andrea Lawrence, Erin Stevenson and Ali Manning* - you made my job easier and fun to do! Thank you SO much!

Looking forward to 2011, with 10 weddings already booked and hoping to book more, a bridal show in January and lots of other new things coming I hope that both you and I have a successful, fun and amazing year!

Thank you again to all my clients and friends for making 2010 everything I hoped it would be!

Keep an eye out for the new look at the start of the year - with a great competition to kick the year off! :-)

Ali created a blog documenting her wedding process showing how choices were made etc., GREAT for any new brides!!!! Right now, Tom and Ali are just moving into their new home! Congratulations guys!

Nikki & Bob - Engaged!

While I was up in Ohio for pre-Christmas visiting with family and friends, I managed to squeeze in one last shoot! Of course, it was snowing and cold but it was fun - when clients are OK with being cold it makes for great photographs! We shot these images at Chapin Forest in Kirtland, OH.

Nikki and Bob are getting married 11.11.11 and I KNOW it's going to be a great wedding! Congratulations guys and I'll see you soon!

Deana & Ray - Engaged

Deana is a long time friend of mine. We have worked together, traveled together and generally just had lots of fun together! She recently got engaged to Ray and I couldn't be happier for her. They have set their wedding date for October next year and I am delighted to be shooting it for her......

Last weekend - when it snowed - I had the chance to snap a few pics of them both at Punderson!. JUST as we were ready to take photos on the beach a hundred or so* dogs came round the corner and started playing in the lake and sand so we had to move. No worries, the place was big enough for us all......

These last two photos? Ray pulled a face and when he smiled Deana pulled a face. Neither knowing what the other had done....... Meant to be together! :-)

Did I tell you how happy I am for these two? If I didn't, re-read this post a hundred times :-)

Kristin & Ben - Married

This whole family hail from Texas - and had planned a wedding in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

In November.

Now, those local to Ohio know that in November the weather can be kind - sunny and warm, or harsh - cold and snowy. Shall we take a guess which weather we got?

That is the stunning Hillbrook Club in Chagrin Falls, OH where the family were staying and where the reception was being held.

The day before, shortly after the rehearsal I managed to get a few shots of the bridesmaids - Suzanne and Melissa. These girls were so friendly, and ready for any shot taken! These are just a couple of shots I managed to take!

The day of the wedding, the snow fell but that didn't hamper the spirits of anyone attending the wedding. The ceremony was at the United Methodist at Chagrin Falls.

Due to the weather conditions, taking formal photographs was out of the window, so we quickly headed to The Hillbrook Club for the reception.

One of the cool things about this wedding was how 'hands on' Kristin was. She had a craft table set aside for the kids who would be there to play at!

She also had a whole display of family photographs, hanging against a wall. Hundreds of small pictures documenting weddings, family gatherings etc., hanging for everyone to check out!

The reception was a low-key affair but very personal - I was privileged to take part!

Michael and Elisha - Married!

Saturday was the wedding day of Michael and Elisha, at First Baptist Church in Jackson Township. If ever a couple were ready to be married it was these two! Both were so excited - elated even - to be taking the next step in their lives.

Elisha was giggling and it was so contagious! Her dress was absolutely perfect for her. The guys looked pretty handsome too!

I was at this church back in May when I shot the wedding of Michael's sister Miriam and her husband Eduardo and it is a perfect church to have a wedding in and to shoot a wedding too.

The reception was held at the University Center at Kent State - Stark campus. There are so many halls here for receptions to be held in, you are spoiled for choice!

Ali & Tom - Married!

You know how they say that if it rains on a wedding day, it means good luck for the bride and groom? Well, Ali and Tom are in for LOTS and LOTS of luck throughout their marriage as it rained non-stop on theirs :-) Aside from the rain, Saturday was a really really good day. So good that I'm still smiling thinking about it!

You may remember this lovely couple from this engagement shoot. I'm thinking I must be the bad weather omen as it was horrible weather that day too! Sorry guys!

Well, the day finally arrived and Ali couldn't stop smiling. Being surrounded by all her bridesmaids helped too - those girls were so happy! There was even a double rainbow while they were getting ready at the salon.

The dress Ali wore was amazing and she looked stunning in it once it was on!

The ceremony was at Saint John Vianney, Mentor - I have loved this church since I shot a wedding there last Christmas.

From the church we managed to dodge a few raindrops and head down to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for some bridal party shots!

The cake was STUNNING and delicious....

The first dance........ slow..... quick.......... slow............ and fun! Ali said that they were both nervous but you couldn't tell at all!

Once the reception started, people filled the dance floor from start to finish!

We opened the photobooth once the dancing started and let me tell you, they ALL had fun!

The bride and groom even pulled me in for a photo with them!

There are soooooo many photobooth photos I couldn't show them all. This blog post would be ridiculously long - seriously!

If the wedding day is any indication, Ali and Tom are going to have a wonderful and blessed life!

Julianne and Ryan - Married!

Remember Julianne and Ryan from this engagement shoot at the LOVELY Benetka covered bridge in Ohio? Well, this past Saturday was their wedding day. It was held at the equally as lovely Madison Country Club.

The days both before and after the wedding were cold, cloudy and rainy but for THEIR day, it was warm and sunny - and without sounding too cliche - it WAS a great day for a wedding!

Matt & Filomena - Engaged!

Somebody forgot to call the sun Gods and tell them that I was shooting Matt and Folimena's engagement shoot in Cleveland last Friday. Instead, rain and clouds were what we all had to contend with. I think we managed to pull it off!

We started off at Little Italy - a place I love to go eat! They had their Converse on so of COURSE I had to get those in the photos somehow....... and the Italian flag is up!

We wanted to head up the Garfield Monument for a full view of Cleveland but the platform was closed for the week - the way our luck was going that was inevitable so we ended up spending time at the Wade Chapel pool.

After driving around for ever we ended up downtown Cleveland. Matt must have been cursing me all over the place as I'm useless at directions and he had to follow me. I was going here, there and everywhere! Sorry Matt!

This was when the skies opened up and the rain fell. As we say in England "It was chucking it down...."

However, I got some great shots. These two being some of my favorites as it shows both Matt and Filomena just having fun, enjoying the moment and that's really what it's all about!

The shoot was exactly a year to the date that they are getting married so we are hoping that the sun shines and everyone is warm!

Connie & Marc - Married!

August 28th, 2010 was a gorgeous day and a perfect one to get married on! Connie and Marc, their family and friends certainly made this a fun wedding - one I will always remember.

They started the day at the Renaissance Hotel where all got ready.

They also had their 'first look'. The first look is becoming quite a tradition and from a photography point of view, I LOVE it. Everyone is more relaxed and there isn't quite the rush on the day to get all the formal photographs completed.

If you have never been to the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland, you really should try and do so. The lobby is quite amazing, glorious colors leap at your from the furniture, the floor, the ceiling, the fountain etc., We made use of as much as we could - including the piano.

The ceremony and reception were held at the Old Courthouse which again, was an AMAZING place to shoot at.

Of course, Connie and Marc chose to have the photobooth which, again, is becoming very popular - clearly! :-)

Congratulations Connie and Marc - I hope you have a fabulous future together!

Andrea - Rock the Frock, Trash the Dress

As I mentioned in my last post I had the pleasure of shooting a former bride in a Trash the Dress session. I LOVE doing these! The client is way more relaxed than on their wedding day and are not quite so reserved or careful when it comes to the dress.

I usually try to keep the number of photos to a minimum when posting but these - I think - are way too good to keep on my computer and not to see!

Beach Life

Some friends of mine were vacationing in North Myrtle Beach and knowing I was in the area, invited me over and we had a very informal relaxed fun photo shoot! The warm sea water, hot sand and bright sun was just what we all needed.

Elisha & Michael - E-Session

I first met this lovely young couple at a wedding back in May. Michael is the brother of Miriam. Luckily he and Elisha chose me to shoot their upcoming wedding in October.

I met with them both last weekend at the McKinley Monument in Canton, Ohio. It was a spectacularly gorgeous, sunny and VERY hot day!

We headed over to the gardens for a few photographs too....

Erin & Bruce - Married!

Before I start with this blog post, I wanted to say that being a part of and chronicling an important day in a persons life means more to me than you can imagine. Whilst I enjoy taking photographs, knowing that the very same photographs will be looked at, discussed, enjoyed and admired by not only the bride and groom but by friends and family members (and future family members :-) ) just gives me such a warm feeling. While they remember the fun they had, they also remember the love they felt on that important day and the fact that I had such a small part OF that day is overwhelming and I thank each and every person that gives me the honor of being there to do so.

Now, all the mushy stuff aside, I had the pleasure of shooting Erin & Bruce's wedding day on Saturday - a very HOT SUNNY Saturday at the Berkshire Hills Country Club, Chesterland, OH. While you enjoy the photographs, I'll be cooling down...... :-)

Bill, Erins' Dad had written her a letter before she exchanged vows. Who didn't cry at that?.....

Amanda & Chris - E-Session

Early last year I received an e-mail from Mandy asking to shoot their wedding in 2011 - yes, those dates are that far apart! I'm in high demand you know........ :-)

At the time, her fiance Chris - in the Army - was currently deployed and she asked that once he returned I meet with them to go over their plans.

He returned - thankfully and I met with them a month or so ago. We discussed the plans they had, and scheduled an engagement shoot. I was given the green light to be as creative as possible and they would go along with whatever I had in mind. Two small kinks in those plans however. Mandy is currently expecting, and Chris recently had surgery. We did our best however and headed out to the baseball fields, Mentor Lagoons and ended up in Lake Erie. Not too bad.....

Now that they know the sex of the baby, a maternity shoot is in the works for my next trip and then it's the wedding before you know it!

The Lenders - family shoot!

This evening I had the chance to shoot a fellow photographer and his family over at Holden Arboretum. The last time Paul and I were there we were knee deep in snow so it was nice to finally get to actually SEE the arboretum this time.

Let me also tell you - shooting another photographer? Only nerve-wracking by THIS much! ;-) Here, we have Carter, future heartbreaker for sure!

Miriam & Eduardo - Married!

On a VERY rainy cloudy Saturday this past weekend, I had the pleasure and HONOR of shooting the wedding of this amazing couple. Together with their family and friends they made the day perfect, and even the weather didn't hamper any part of the day and what a day it was!

In the morning I got together with the girls at the hotel as they got ready, and even through the ironing problems there were plenty of laughs. The dress was STUNNING.

The guys meanwhile were taking it easy at the church!

Eduardo's family who live in Uraguay couldn't make it to the ceremony but they managed to see the whole event happen through the wonders of modern technology! It was being shot and watched through the internet! Friends in Japan were even seeing it unfold!

Once the ceremony was over, it was time to head over to the reception which was fabulousfrom the cake to the table decorations to the staff at the hotel. Nothing was left untouched by class.

There wasn't one time that the dance floor was empty - and the AMAZING DJ made sure of that. EVERYONE was dancing, even me!

This truly was a great wedding and I hope, no, I KNOW that Miriam and Eduardo will be very happy in the future!

Allison & Tom - Engagement

Allison & Tom are getting married in October at St. John Vianney, Mentor OH *jumps with glee* but they currently live in Va.

Va. where it is currently a LOT warmer than Mentor, OH. :-/

This morning we got together for their engagement shoot as they were in town. It was very VERY cold. Rainy, dark-gray-sky-cold. However, they were troopers and we managed to get a few shots before they literally turned blue in front of me!

I am TOTALLY looking forward to their wedding and to seeing them warm!

Andrea & Keith - The Wedding Part II

The morning after the rehearsal, it was time to get packed up and head to the Hyatt Hotel, Cleveland where the bridal party were getting ready! They were moved from their regular rooms to the Presidential Suite shortly after our arrival and let me tell you, the Presidential Suite got lots of "Oooh" and "Aaaaah"s from everyone who went there! It is simply GORGEOUS and the PERFECT place to get ready for a wedding.

The girls were backwards and forwards having hair, nails and make-up done and dressing in between! Paul and I managed to get a few shots in though.......

Then, the guys were finally ready ~ let me tell you that they took longer than the girls to get ready, if you can believe that - so Paul headed down to get a few shots of them!

Andrea & Keith were going to do a 'big reveal' and see each other before the ceremony, that way getting more shots of themselves and the wedding party before the ceremony that was taking place later that afternoon. Luckily, in the Hyatt hotel there is a gorgeous bridge that we were able to utilize and that's where they met and 'saw each other' for the first time, dressed in their wedding outfits! it was a lovely moment.

Once we had finished with the indoor shots, it was time to head out into the cold cold air and try to get as many shots of the wedding party before they literally froze in front of us :-)

Once they were all sufficiently frozen and their skin was a light tinge of blue :-) we headed indoors to the ceremony which was lovely. One of the bridesmaids, Lauren, sang a lovely song that had some people emotional, and once they walked back down the aisle, Andrea & Keith were serenaded to "Here Comes The Sun"!

Then it was time to have the grand entrance into the reception hall and to cut the cake - of course doing the now traditional cake-in-the-face smushing followed by the speeches.

The first dances with their respective parents of the bride and groom was delightful, especially Andrea and her father dancing to a song they used to dance to when she was a baby *aaaaaaawwwww*

Then it was time for the 'First Dance'. This was hilarious and involved music from the 1500's, Seal's "Kiss From a Rose" and finally the bride and groom playing Guitar Hero. I LOVE LOVE LOVE a break from tradition and this was just fun from start to finish.

Then it was time for the guest to have fun and boy, did they have fun!

and so the night ended. This was one of the most fun weddings both Paul and I have shot and it showed on the faces of everyone who attended. Andrea & Keith went on Honeymoon to Cancun the following Monday where hopefully they recovered from all the fun that was had at their wedding and reception!

Congratulations Andrea & Keith - may you have lots of years of happiness ahead of you!

Andrea & Keith - The Wedding Part I ~ Rehearsal

This past weekend I had the opportunity to shoot the wedding of Andrea & Keith - you may remember their engagement shoot? The whole weekend was fun, fun, fun and as such, I am breaking the posting of this event into two posts, the rehearsal in Part I and the wedding in Part II - out Friday!

Whenever I book a wedding I always let the bride and groom know that I will be attending the rehearsal too. This gives me the chance to figure out the time-line of the ceremony, check the lighting situation, where the advantageous spots are for shooting, and also to meet people the wedding party and their families in a more comfortable relaxed setting.

The wedding and reception were being held at Windows on the River, Cleveland OH which is a gorgeous place for both should you ever be looking for such an event location! I can't say enough about the staff at Windows, they were total professionals and they ran everything without a glitch! Excellent excellent venue! My second shooter for this wedding was Paul Lender, Left of Center Photography.

From the start of this rehearsal until the end, we saw not only how this couple are so very much in love but also how much their family and friends mean to them. They are fun, happy and just enjoying life - as evidenced in the photographs we took!

When I booked with Andrea & Keith they also invited Paul and I to the rehearsal dinner that was taking place afterward which was being held at The Corner Alley in downtown Cleveland. There they had the VIP room which held a bar, 4 private lanes for bowling and seating areas for the buffet that was served.

Both Paul and I had fun here and we knew without a doubt that the wedding the next day was going to be just as much fun........

Melissa & Travis ~ Engaged Wisconsin

This past week I have been traveling a LOT. Wisconsin for a few days and then a long drive to South Carolina followed by a drive to North Carolina then back home! As I said, LOTS of driving!

I was in Wisconsin to attend an engagement party AND to do a shoot! Melissa is the niece of a good friend of mine and when I heard she was engaged and having a party? Well, I had to shoot it! Travis is serving in the Wisconsin National Guard and isn't home often so it was nice to meet him and to see the two of them together.

Their Story..........

This year for Valentine's Day Travis Bernard proposed to me with the help of a good friend and a fortune cookie. Valentine's weekend this year was all about enjoying time spent with people I love... and I ended up with so much more than just a good weekend. Travis had a weekend pass from training and Eamon Bauman and I traveled up to Sparta, WI to spend time with him while we still could. His suggestion that we all spend Valentine's Day eating Chinese Takeout in our hotel room sounded like the perfect plan. Then halfway through dinner he asked me to split a fortune cookie with him while Eamon took pictures... When I opened the fortune cookie to read the fortune I started to tear up. "Will you marry me?" was printed on the tiny slip of paper...

Travis pulled a box out of his pocket with a simple but beautiful ring inside and asked me to marry him.... Like I was going to say no to the one person who puts up with all my crazy and still loves me for it every single day. I am truly blessed :)

What Does This Woman Have In Common With Me?

This afternoon I had the opportunity to take photographs of my friend Gerry. She is taking an exciting new step forward in her life and needed photographs to document this and to show the world how ready she is! As you all know, I LOVE shooting people but when I am taking photographs of friends it makes my job THAT much easier! I can bark orders and they won't get mad - or if they do, they suck it up and get over it! :-) Gerry was no exception! it was a fun, easy and quick shoot. I should also mention that it was cold as you can clearly see.........

Gerry is a detective so obviously she shoots guns! I am quite happy shooting with my cameras :-) I have known Gerry for a little over four years and she is such a fun person. I am so happy to know her!

C-C-C-Cleveland and Nicole!

During the cold months here in NorthEast Ohio, shooting material gets very limited. Everything is covered in snow and everything begins to just look the same. As a photographer that doesn't like being cold, cabin fever sets in very quickly and I really DO have to try hard to get out and about. Luckily I have many photographer friends that are there to help me do this!

Last weekend, a bunch of us decided to head downtown and shoot some rainy Cleveland scenery. Enjoy!

Rainy cold days make Cleveland look pretty good if you ask me :-)

Aside from downtown, living right by the lake also has advantages!

However, as much as I like shooting 'out and about' me, my main love is shooting people! It has been a while since I just went out and was able to photograph a 'real live person' :-) so I asked my good friend Nicole if she would let me shoot her and as always she obliged! I got some pretty stunning shots of her and she was even good enough to shoot without a jacket on. In the snow. It was FREEZING!

So, even though it's nice and cold, my camera still works and I'm happy about that! Keep coming back to see more of what I'm doing! It'll be fun - I promise!

Leeanne & John - Wedding Sneak Peek

My last wedding of the year was almost on the last DAY of the year! What a perfect way to round out the year!

Leeanne and John were married in a small intimate wedding ceremony attended by close family and friends. The location of St John Vianney in Mentor, OH was perfect, it really is a beautiful church!

The bride wore a GORGEOUS dress and the jewelry she wore had a vintage look that matched the dress perfectly.

While we talk about the jewelry, lets take a look at the wedding bands they were to exchange. One word - STUNNING!

The ceremony was beautiful, fun and very personal.

During the rehearsal the bride and groom gave a swift kiss when it came to the "You may kiss the bride....". We all wondered if it would be the same during the ceremony..... they proved otherwise. I managed to shoot SEVERAL images of 'The Kiss' YAY!

Once the ceremony was over it was time to take the formal shots and let the bride and groom head off to the reception that was being held at John Palmers.

Snow Much? - A Family Photoshoot Sneak Peek

This afternoon I had the pleasure of shooting two good friends of mine, Gigi and Jim. Both are photographers so you can imagine the pressure I was under to produce quality photographs! I'm crossing everything I have and even things I don't in the hope they like what I took!

The shoot has been in the works for a long time and finally, while Jim's two kids were in town it all came together. It was however, unfortunate that the very day the shoot was to take place it started to snow. Well, we should have known better, we do after all live in Ohio but still..........

I had to scramble for a suitable place indoors that could accommodate the shoot and as luck would have it, I called my friends at the Quail Hollow Resort and they happily let me shoot away! The lobby alone is a gorgeous place with a HUGE brick fireplace that extends up to the ceiling three floors up!

I was introduced to Allison and Ryan, both of Jim's kids and to Ricky who was Allison's boyfriend who had tagged along. We got started........ (these are just a few - more to follow once I've warmed up and edited them ;-)

Once we had finished shooting indoors, I managed to get them outdoors for just a couple of extra ones. It is very obviously snowing and Ryan was brave in just his shirt *shivers for him*

The one I felt MOST sorry for though was Ricky........ He lives in the Bahamas so you can only IMAGINE how cold he was !!!!! But then my sympathy went out of the window when I realized that yes, he lives in the Bahamas! LOL

and because he asked for it...... ;-)

You Asked! - Why Are Professional Photographers So Expensive?

In this digital age where everyone has cameras, scanners and 'home photo printers', we hear this all the time:

"How do professional or personal photographers charge $X for an 8x10 when they cost just $1.50 at the local drugstore?"

Simply put, the customer is not just paying for the actual photograph; they are paying for time and expertise.

THE AVERAGE ONE-HOUR PORTRAIT SESSION

First, let's look at the actual work involved:

Travel to the session
Set-up, preparation, talking to the client etc.,
Shoot the photos
Travel from the session
Load images onto the computer
Back-up the files on an external drive
2-4 hours of Photoshop time, including cropping, contrast, color, sharpening, and backing-up edited photographs. Proof photographs are also ordered.
2-3 hours to talk to the client, answer questions, receive order and payment, order their prints, receive and verify prints, package prints, schedule shipment and ship.
Possibly meet clients at their home or studio to review photos and place order.
Meeting and travel time average 2 hours

You can see how a one-hour photo session easily turns into an eight hour day or more from start to finish.So if you see a professional photographer charging a $200 session fee for a one-hour photo shoot, the client is NOT paying them $200 per hour!

THE EIGHT HOUR WEDDING

A wedding photographer typically meets with the bride and groom several times before and after the wedding. And it's not uncommon to end up with 1,000-2,000 photographs, much more than a portrait session. many photographers spend up to 40-60 hours working on one eight hour wedding if you look at the time that is truly involved. Again, if a wedding photographer is charging $4,000 for eight hours of coverage, clients are NOT paying them $500 per hour!

(Don't forget that the photographer runs the wedding day to some extent. A comfortable, confident wedding photographer can make a wedding day go more smoothly)

THE EXPERTISE AND COST OF DOING BUSINESS

Shooting professional photography is a skill acquired through years of experience. Even though a DSLR now costs under $1000 taking professional portraits involves much more than a nice camera.

Most personal photographers take years to go from buying their first camera to making money with photography. In addition to learning how to use the camera, there is a mountain of other equipment and software programs used to edit and print photographs, run a website, etc., and don't forget backdrops, props, rent, insurance and utilities.

In addition to the financial investment, photographs usually have to have people skills to make subjects comfortable in front of the camera. Posing people to look their best is a skill by itself! You could argue that posing is a more important skill than actually knowing how to use the camera. A poorly exposed can be saved, a badly posed photo cannot.

THE CHAIN STORE PHOTO STUDIO

Chain stores do have their place. For a very cheap price you can run in, shoot some quick photos and be done with it. But you get what you pay for.

Consider the time and effort that a personal photographer puts into a photograph, compared to a chain store. Store sessions last just a few minutes, while a personal photographer takes the time to get to know people, makes them comfortable, makes them laugh. If a baby is crying at a chain store, they don't often have the time (or patience) to wait because everyone is in a hurry.

The truth is that many chain store studios lose money. What the chain stores bank on is a client coming in for quick cheap photos ....... and while there spending $200 on other items. They are there to get you in the door.

THE REAL DEAL

Professional personal photographers are just that - professionals. No different than a mechanic, dentist, doctor or electrician. But a personal photographer often becomes a friend, someone who documents a family for generations with professional, personal photographs of cherished memories.

Maybe we need to help clients see it this way; A pair of scissors cost $1.50 at the drugstore. Still, most people will gladly pay a lot more to hire a professional hairdresser to cut their hair.

The added attention and quality that a personal photographer gives is worth every penny!

Andrea & Keith came to me a few months ago to book their March 2010 wedding at Windows on the River, Cleveland. Although an engagement package was offered, at that time they didn't want to do that. Last week they changed their mind and Sunday we went to downtown Willoughby and took a few photographs! :-) Drink in the beauty of this couple!

We were going for a 'farmer' look here. You had to be there I guess :-) I have color versions of these photos but created a collage of the funny ones in B&W - obviously!

Never let it be said that alleys are boring places.........

The Gierman Family - Veterans Park

Today I had the pleasure of a family photoshoot at the local Veterans Park. At this time of year, the view is pretty good with the lake and reflections of the gold/red/brown colored trees! Weather-wise it was another stroke of good luck! Initially Amanda and I had scheduled for next weekend however it has been unusually warm so we brought it forward - and given Ohio weather, who knows whether it would be snowing next weekend? :-)

Amanda came to me after she had seen the photographs from Melissa and Jody's wedding.

Present at the shoot were Amanda, her husband Glen, their 2 year old and 5 month old sons and their beautiful Golden Retriever!

Baby Brayden smiled the entire time I was shooting, and his brother Glen jr was a total charmer!

One of my favorite shots from this afternoon? Mother and son, just talking, in their own zone.....

Mom and Dad got a moment with each other too!

and of course I had to have a photo of the dog!

Glen jr was enjoying the leaves and being a typical boy playing in mud!

Overall, a lovely way to spend an hour with a lovely family!

Julianne & Ryan, E-Session - Sneak Peek!

I was recently contracted by Ryan & Julianne to shoot their September 2010 wedding at Madison Country Club, OH. Included in their package was an engagement shoot. This shoot was originally arranged for the end of November what with the recent foot surgery I'd had and the time that my doctor had initially given me for recovery. However, I'm a quick healer and was told I could walk sooner than expected. I think also that the leaves falling off the trees at an astonishing rate was giving me extra incentive ~ I knew both Ryan & Julianne were looking for 'Fall' type photos and this would not happen if we had waited any longer.

The location for the shoot was set at the Benetka Covered Bridge in Ashtabula, OH. After raining all week the sun came out and finally it was time to shoot! I had never visited any covered bridges but I can tell you I have already made plans to go back and shoot there again!

Here are a couple of photographs from their shoot.

Ryan & Julianne have been together for 9 years, high school sweethearts, and when asked how he proposed, Ryan said "We went LOOKING for rings, just to look......." which as any woman will tell you means more than just looking! Even Ryan admitted he didn't really have to ask after that "It was kinda implied...." :-)

They are a fun loving couple and I am totally looking forward to working with them as their wedding day draws closer!

Melissa & Jody - The Wedding

Melissa and Jody came to me about a year ago with an inquiry into wedding packages etc., and it seemed as though their wedding date wasn't getting any closer! Well, October 4th finally came around.

They were to be married at the 1st Baptist Church on Fairmount Blvd,. Shaker Heights Ohio. Now, if any of you know this church, I don't have to tell you how AMAZING it is! It is gorgeous both inside and out!

The rehearsal was held the evening before and this is always a good chance to meet up with the rest of the bridal party and parents etc., and to also get a good idea on lighting, the minister etc.,

Once I arrived home from the rehearsal, I began talking to a friend of mine Michelle, who has helped me out on a weddings before and it turned out her plans had dropped through and she was free to assist if I wanted her! She didn't have to ask twice! As the church is so big, I knew that alone I wouldn't have the opportunity to catch all I wanted but with two photographers, I'd get those shots!

The next morning I arrived at the home of the bride's mother and started capturing the 'prep' moments.

Mara and Allison - make-up and hair - were amazing! The made everyone look as gorgeous as ever and pretty soon, after the dress was on, it was time to head to the church where Michelle was meeting the guys!

En route to the church, the bridal party stopped to have some shots taken by the lake. Now at one point, the sun came out and shone quite literally on the party. The Maid of Honor mentioned later that they felt that it was the spirit of their recently departed grandmother being there! A photographer can't ask for anything else once they get the light from above! :-)

But then a bee started attacking the party and it was time to head out again!

The ceremony was over and done with before we knew it and then it was time to get the formal and fun shots done!

Formal-in-the-church shots are more or less the same all around so they aren't shown here. What I WILL give a sneak peak of is the fun shots that followed! The church in all it's brilliance has a fantastic courtyard that we were allowed to shoot in. On top of the courtyard there is also a fun balcony a la Rapunzel! The Best Man finagled access to that and then more fun followed!

After the courtyard, the couple had expressed an interest in shooting at the Wade Oval lake downtown Cleveland (by Severance Hall). The weather was holding out for us and off we went. Melissa had one shot in mind and I was lucky enough to get it! :-)

Once we had finished there, it was time to head to La Vera Party Center for the reception and that was fun! Dancing, drinking, cake-cutting, bouquet-tossing, garter-throwing and lots lots more..........

EDIT - I received a fabulous note from Melissa thanking us for the great photos we took and she had some advice for us! We needed to quote "You're a tiger...." more during our shoot! I'll take that under advisement! :-)

Liza & Ronell Dessausure - Wedding

Last year, at a birthday party of a friend, I met a woman who inquired about a wedding photographer, and of course, she came to the right place! After a couple of meetings with both Liza and Ronell, the date was set and all we had to do was wait!

September 19th came and finally it was time.......

Assisted by Michelle Rodriquez, we met the wedding party at the Double Tree Hotel in Cleveland after some swift maneuvering what with OSU playing at the Q - note to self, check sports schedules before heading ANYWHERE!

The girls were all in one room, doing the things that girls do!

Liza wore the most sensible shoes I have seen a bride wear - Skechers!

The guys were all in their room, chilling, taking their time, having fun.....

The rings were kept in a beautiful lace covered ring box.

Once everyone was ready, it was time to head down to Massimo da Milano where both the ceremony and reception were being held. This place is located in the Historic district of Cleveland!

Once the officiant had signed the necessary paperwork, it was time for the ceremony to start!

The ceremony was quite beautiful, from start to finish.....

The couple incorporated the pouring of sand, a unique alternative to the unity candle.

Once the ceremony and formal photographs of family were over with, it was time to get some location shots in. We utilized the bridge downtown and the park opposite the restaurant. We had fun! The majority of those photographs are available for viewing in the website viewing gallery!

Then, it was time to start the reception! There are too many photographs to show from this fun but here is the reception hall and the first dance...... Once editing has finished, more will follow!

Weddings - Don't you just LOVE them ? :-)

This past weekend Photographs by Andrea was busy busy busy with TWO weddings to shoot. Two VERY different weddings.

We have still to edit and process the images however we HAD to show you these fantastic images...... a teaser if you will for the awesome images yet to come!

First there was the Arora-Patel wedding which was at La-Vera Party Center in Willoughby Hills, OH. A great group of people who made our job so easy and fun! As the bride and groom are English, lots of guests had flown in from London to attend this great wedding!

Next up, we had the Brunner-Brewton wedding, which was held outdoors at the Manakiki Golf and Country Club in Willoughby Ohio. The weather held out for this spectacular wedding and there were over 230 guests to make this wedding one of the most fun ones we have shot! Paul Lender over at Left of Center Photography was also on hand to shoot - thanks Paul!

A very very busy weekend but it's going to be fun editing these photos!

Ben & Brittany - The Wedding

I recently posted about an engagement shoot I did for Ben & Brittany. Ben is the son of a great friend of mine and I was lucky enough to be chosen as their wedding photographer!

This past weekend, I traveled down to Columbus Ohio early enough that I could capture the entire event from rehearsal through to the reception! It was one of the best wedding I have been to AND photographed. Ben and Brittany are young, vibrant and completely in love, and the same goes for their friends and family. Overall a very warm, fabulous crowd of people to be in the company of.

The wedding was held at St Brendan's Church, Hilliard Ohio. A GORGEOUS church both inside and out!

The rehearsal began and everyone was told where to go, where to stand, what to do and how to do it!

After a couple of 'run-through's' they managed to figure it out and then it was off to go eat and celebrate what was to come........ The Digger and Finch Restaurant was the perfect place to go!

The next morning, I had a lot of running about to do. Shoot the girls at Kenneth's Salon in Dublin, OH then rush over to the boys to shoot them. Both groups were very relaxed, the boys managing to get a few games of Wii tennis in! The guys didn't have a CLUE about how to use the cuff-links, the ties or anything! I felt so old .......

Then in no time at all, it was time to head for the church!

The ceremony was everything I knew it would be and more! The photographs from that will be posted once I have the complete set to the bride and groom! :-)

After the ceremony, it was time to head out and get shots of the bridal party. Let me tell you how hot it was. It was HOT HOT HOT! I checked afterward and the temperature reached 100 degrees. WAY too hot for a bridal party to be out for more than 20 minutes in tuxes and dresses!

I got the shots I needed and it was time to head for the reception which was being held at The Makoy Center.

Once there, the cake was cut, the bouquet was thrown, the dances were danced. Before that all happened though, there were the speeches! The best man was emotional :-) and the Maid of Honor was HILARIOUS! She had written a poem for the bride and it was just fantastic!

As I mentioned, it was one of the best weddings I have been to and just looking through the photographs as I edit them is making me so happy!

Congratulations Ben & Brittany, hope it was all you wanted it to be and more!

'Senior Season' is upon us!.........

As parents of graduating seniors know, not only is this the time of year to get the 'perfect' portrait taken to commemorate the 'final' year, it's also usually the time to completely empty the bank account! Luckily, the parents who choose me as their photographer only have to endure one of those hardships!

Senior - KATIE

I recently had the pleasure of taking Katie P's senior photos. I knew this would be a fun shoot not only because I personally know Katie and have shot her before, but she is into almost every kind of sport you can imagine, and is willing to have a go at everything and anything to get a good shot!

We started off in the studio to do semi-formal shots and of course she saw the red tutu that is fast becoming a fun fave of ANYONE who comes to be photographed - boys too! :-)

Then, we headed up to Squires Castle for some nice 'out-doorsy' shots. Squires castle is a great place, however, the last two times I have been there it has been overwhelmed with The Boy Scouts of America Convention (apparently) and the other time, every Summer School Club in Ohio felt it was necessary to go there :-)

After a bunch of shots there, we headed to Mentor High to get some Fast Pitch photographs.........

I got LOTS of great photos and wish all my Seniors were as much fun........

Ashlyn & Makenna

A couple of weeks ago, Carey called me to set up a photo session with her two daughters, 4 year old Ashlyn (who spelled her name out for me!!! :-) and 2 months old Makenna.

Ashlyn was the first in front of my camera and almost did everything BUT look at the camera! :-) My studio is full of things that she had questions for and wanted answers for, and to every answer? "Why.....?" She did make me laugh!

I got some pretty awesome shots of her I think! While Ashlyn was in front of the camera, Makenna was being fed and changed and then it was "Lights, Camera, Action......"

Makenna slept, cried, and did all the usual things a 9 week old WOULD do! :-) I wouldn't have expected anything less.....

This perfect shot of them both was all I wanted it to be and more........ :-)

Josh & Nicky - 06.20.09

This particular Saturday, I had the chance to shoot the wedding of Nicky and Josh in Parma, OH. This wedding was unlike ANY wedding I have shot or attended as both the bride and groom were deaf as were 90% of the congregation!

The groom and groomsmen are HEAVILY into Harley Davidson Motorcycles and thus, the theme of the wedding was set!

They were married in a beautiful church - The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church which is a photographers dream let me tell you! Lots of light AND a balcony to take shots of the whole ceremony from above!

The interpreter did an AMAZING job as it was his first wedding! This was a whole new experience for me too and seeing the bride and groom sign "I do..." was fantastic!

Instead of applause, the congregation were asked to raise their hands in the air and wave!

Once the ceremony was over, it was time to take family photographs! The grandparents were super involved in the raising of the bride and groom so it was important to them that they were photographed together - the grandparents were adorable!

Then it was on to the reception which was held in the basement of the Church. Here, the Best Man and Maid of Honor give their 'speeches'.

After the reception, the bridal party hopped on their motorcycles and headed to a local park for photos with their bikes! They truly were a biking family!

Overall - a great, interesting beautiful wedding!

Mindy & Bo 06.13.09

Saturday was the much anticipated wedding of Mindy and James - 'Bo' to friends and family.

It seemed like this wedding had been planned for EVER and was never going to get here but the day finally arrived. The day started early for the bride and her bridesmaids as they were all getting hair/make-up done at Deanne's Salon/Spa in Mentor at 8:00 am sharp. Although - as is often the case with brides - things never happen on time. In fact, during the whole day, nothing went on time!

My good friend Paul was assisting me with the photography for the day and while I was shooting the girls, he was getting ready to meet with the groom and groomsmen over in Painesville, OH. Out of all the shots Paul was going to take, I asked for one type of shot in particular and he NAILED it! Yay Paul!

While the bride and the girls were eating healthy wholesome muffins and drinking champagne at her moms house, the guys decided to make a quick pit stop for fast food!!

The limo came for the Mindy at 11:30 and although she was scheduled to be at the church around noon, they didn't in fact leave UNTIL noon............. :-)

Once we arrived at the church, the girls were in a room at the back hiding while guests were all led in. The bridesmaids had a bit of fun!

Finally, the moment came when Mindy was due to walk down the aisle.

The ceremony on a whole was a lovely one. There were some fun moments during it, especially Bo forgetting which hand was his right one!

Once the vows had been exchanged, and the bride and groom, husband and wife, had left the church, it was time for everyone to congregate at the entrance where there was a "Release of Doves' ceremony. I won't tell you about how one of the doves had an 'accident' on a bridesmaid dress. Oh wait............ ;-)

After formal photographs had been taken of family members it was time to head over to the 'location' shoot with the bridal party.

We chose Colby Park in Willowick which is a stunning place for photographs! We had fun with all the guys and girls and got some pretty great shots I think!

It took 7, yes SEVEN jumps to get this final shot! outtakes are on the disc to be given to the bride!

After a short break we all headed to Capelli's, in Mentor OH for the reception.

Much fun was had from the speeches to the bridal bouquet toss to the father daughter dance to the garter toss all captured by both myself and Paul.

Today I had the pleasure of a photo session with the adorable Natalie! This 3 year old was a bundle of fun to photograph!

After many attempts at picking decent weather, I was finally able to get together with Natalie and her mom Jennifer for the photo shoot. We initially were aiming for a 'flowery' scene but it wasn't to be ~ although there were a few daisies!

We didn't let that put us off though. We met at Concord Woods Nature Park which is a GORGEOUS place to shoot. There were a lot of people fishing but we managed to get a few good shots in!

From there we headed over to Fairport Harbor with a quick dress change en route :-)

Once we had finished there, we headed over to the beautiful Headlands Beach. We were briefly being attacked by a swarm of bugs - which didn't bother Natalie AT ALL (she was walking real fast :-)

Natalie then had lots of fun on the swings and also on the beach with the birds and the lake!

Once had finished, I left Natalie and her mom so they could finish playing on the swings. Overall a GREAT shoot and I hope they enjoy all the other photographs too as much as I had taking them!

A JOURNEY BEHIND THE SCENES..........

Welcome! As most of my readers are aware I have an official website that highlights my work in gallery, proofing and slideshow formats. However, photo-shoots are so much more than me holding a camera and shooting!

I wanted to be able to share with you not only the work that goes into a photo-shoot but also the fun that is had! Clients always tell me that I 'captured the moment perfectly' which is a lovely compliment, and in this behind-the-scenes-blog, I will be telling you more ABOUT the clients, how the shoot came about, and possibly showing shots that 'didn't make the cut' for one reason or another. Check out the 'Previously' link for those shoots.

I will also be discussing things that are of interest to me, new galleries, other photographers, places of interest etc., that you will find in the 'News' link. So bookmark my page and enjoy the ride!

This family recently became larger with the addition of little Westley Russell. I have been friends with them for some time now and it was our interest in Photography that brought us all together. That friendship has grown much to my pleasure.

What with schedules changing all the time and my traveling, it took some time to actually pin point and firmly plan a date for the photo session, however eventually we got there and on April 4th, we finally all got together.

Westley is without a doubt one of the cutest babies I have ever had the pleasure to take photographs of. His smile is simply adorable and the process of working on the prints was a delight - I was smiling throughout! It was fun!

As you can clearly see, his parents are BIG fans of OU with Westley being inducted into the family fan-club!

While his outfits were being changed, I had the chance to shoot the obligatory birthday skin photographs and Westley took the chance to make his mark ~ so to speak ~ on my backdrop much to has parents chagrin. I of course just laughed this off. Westley just smiled wider :-)

At one point he was trying to make an escape - luckily my studio isn't that big that babies can just crawl off and not be noticed!

This family is one of the friendliest I have worked with and the time just flew by!

Plans are being made to re-shoot once the weather warms up - however, this IS Ohio so Westley will possibly be graduating high school when that photo-shoot comes around!

Blog Design/Template

Although it is impossible to imagine *tongue firmly in cheek* as far as html coding and web design, I am at a complete loss but luckily for me I didn't have to search too far for help in making this blog look like it does!!

The FABULOUS Rita over at Coffeeshop Photography helped me out in a HUGE way!

Numerous e-mails were sent back and forth with me describing what I wanted in ways such as "I want that thingy to go there, then when people hit this, they get that thingy there....." and she understood! How awesome is that? She is also in the process of creating her blog design company 'Texas Chicks, Blogs and Pics' which as soon as it is complete I will be highly praising!

You couldn't ask for a nicer, easy to work with person than Rita! *salutes Rita*

She also has a website where she has FREE templates, actions and loads of other great stuff for Photoshop Elements and PS users many of which I have used in my photos!

You should check her out here! and on top of all that, she runs a group on Flickr! that has close to 3000 members! so you should check that out too!

So overall, new website, new blog, new designer, new business! Check us all out!

The photo session I had with Michelle was certainly an experience. Bringing a plethora of clothing, accessories and a FUN sense of humor, the long day flew by and it was difficult to choose which shots were our favorites!

Michelle is a Sign language Teacher at an Ohio school and has become a very dear friend. Being an avid fellow photographer helps too! :-)

Michelle has many great qualities about her and never am I surprised by anything she does, says or shows an interest in ~ "International Talk Like a Pirate Day" being one of them!

During the photo-shoot there were approximately 10 outfit changes, with and without boots/shoes/sandals. Some without clothes!

Overall though - if all my photo-shoots and clients were as fabulous as this I'd be a very happy, LUCKY photographer!

Keep an eye out for Michelle in future blog posts.... we are planning a 'Lake' photo session when the weather warms up!

Ben & Brittany - Engagement

My session with Ben and Brittany happened late last year in Bainbridge, OH. Ben is the son of a great friend of mine and this photo-shoot coincided with the family shoot I was doing. By the time I came around to the couple, we were all relaxed and comfortable with each other and the shoot itself was a lot of fun!

Ben is a quiet guy, with an endearing smile that when he DOES smile, you feel like you've known him forever. Brittany is gorgeous and very easy-going. This was an EASY shoot!

This is my favorite shot of the couple, shot outside the house - which has just been sold. The house was a photographer's dream let me tell you! The wall colors just blended perfectly!

The driveway to the house was long and the property was surrounded by a fully wooded lot which made the backgrounds just ADD to the photographs!

While I was shooting, we got to talking about the dancing the couple would do at the ceremony and here you can see how much Ben REALLY wants to do the bridal dance ~ and how much practice he really needs :-)

Ben and Brittany are getting married in Columbus, OH in August 2009 and have also chosen me as their wedding photographer. Knowing the family, AND the couple as I do, I am positive this wedding will be a great one and I can't wait to capture it all!
